Cut the beef into cubes, wash it and leave it to drain. Melt the fat and fry the finely chopped onion in it until it is transparent. Sprinkle with the paprika and the chili powder, lower the heat, and continue to fry, stirring all the time. Add the meat then and mix well. Season with salt and put in the crushed garlic and the caraway seeds. Add one or two tablespoons of water, cover and simmer very gently, stirring frequently. As the liquid evaporates, add another tablespoon of water. When the meat begins to soften, add the sliced peppers, thetomatoes, and the cubed raw potatoes. Mix thoroughly and add enough water to cover well. Remember this is meant to be a soup with everything else included, rather than a stew which has become somewhat wet. Simmer until the potatoes are cooked and the meat tender.


If you are a vegetarian, you can skip the beef. The soup will not lose much, if anything.
